FileName: safety-pool.txt Created: 2000-1022 Did you know ... Each year there are needless injuries and deaths from pool accidents. Many of these would have been prevented if safety measures had been taken. This pool safety information is provided as a public service by Crest Communications. Portions of this information are taken from the June, 2000 newsletter by St. Thomas Communications, Team #4760 in Ontario, Canada. -- PLEASE REMEMBER -- 1. Always LEARN TO SWIM. Know your limitations BEFORE you get into the water. 2. NEVER SWIM ALONE. If something should happen, someone will be available to IMMEDIATELY GET HELP for you. 3. ALWAYS check the pool FIRST if a child is missing. 4. ALWAYS enclose the pool area with fence, with self-closing, self-locking entrances. 5. ALWAYS keep loose items off the fence. Don't make it easy or comfortable for someone to climb over the fence. 6. ALWAYS keep pool toys out of the pool when they aren't in use. Not only can they "get in the way" but they can block your view of the pool when looking for missing or injured persons. 7. ALWAYS remove pool covers completely before entering the water. 8. ALWAYS keep a phone nearby for 911 calls. Make sure the phone works and that you can obtain a dial tone. 9. ALWAYS learn CPR and insist that babysitters know it. 10. ALWAYS post CPR instructions by the pool. To learn more about pool safety, you can purchase the video "It Only Takes A Minute" from your local Red Cross chapter. Also visit: *
